Following the arrest of Nicolas Maduro and US strikes on Caracas, Venezuelans both within the country and abroad have expressed relief and optimism for the future. Celebrations took place in cities such as Lima, Santiago, and Madrid, with expatriates voicing hope for Venezuela's recovery despite lingering anxieties.

However, the US military actions have also sparked international condemnation. Protests were held in Rome, Mexico, and London, where demonstrators criticized Western governments and accused the United States of warmongering.

May the second, the third, the fourth, the fifth, may all of them now be brought down. God willing, we want Venezuela to be free. The relief and joy felt by many Venezuelans about Maduro's arrest is felt beyond their country's borders. Venezuelan citizens in Peru gathered outside their embassy in Lima. And neighbourhoods in Chile's capital Santiago rang out with the Venezuelan national anthem. It wasn't just in Latin America that Maduro's arrest was being celebrated. Here in Madrid, hundreds filled this central square. Venezuelan expatriates are cautiously optimistic for their homeland. I have mixed feelings, a great deal of excitement, a lot of joy. Also, a little anxiety, but mainly hope, faith that little by little Venezuela will recover. The bombing raid on Caracas also sparked international condemnation. Left-wing groups took to the streets in central Rome. We are here because we want to create something different from all of this, because our governments, the US and all the western countries are going towards the wars, are going towards the destruction of this planet and this is not possible for all of us. Demonstrators also gathered outside the US embassies in Mexico and London, in outrage over what they see as warmongering by the United States.

Seized overnight from their home on a military base on Saturday, Venezuela's toppled leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife are now being held in a New York detention centre. The apprehension is the U.S.'s most controversial in Latin America since the invasion of Panama 36 years ago.
