Unusually warm temperatures have been recorded across the Midwest and Northeast, with cities such as Chicago and Washington, D.C. experiencing highs of 54°F and 57°F, respectively. These temperatures are 15 to 25 degrees above average, and the warmth extends even to areas with snow still present on the ground.

Meteorologists attribute the warmth to a ridge over the eastern lakes and east coast, which is expected to persist until a trough moves in over the weekend. This trough is forecasted to bring temperatures back to normal levels after it passes through the region.

You've got some pretty warm temperatures here, 54 in Chicago, 57 in D.C. That's the high for the day. I mean, that's incredible in Chicago when you think about it. Lots of red dots there, even where we've still got snow on the ground. So it's going to warm up. Unfortunately, we're going to get some rain. We talked about that already in our infamous A Block. 15 to 25 degrees above average. Guess where the core of that is? Right up here in the eastern Corn Belt. And you know what? Even to the northeast, that's kind of a nice warm up here. You remember, what was it, Monday morning or Tuesday morning? It was like in the single digits below zero. Now we're in the 40s. All right. There's the ridge all the way over the eastern lakes and onto the east coast. That sticks around until this big trough comes down on Saturday night and Sunday and then sweeps off the coast, only to bring us back to normal.
