Hundreds of daily record highs and warm lows will be in jeopardy across the Midwest, Northeast and mid-Atlantic through the middle of the week. Feels-like temperatures could reach 110 degrees several days in a row.

A significant heat wave is forecast to impact the Midwest, Northeast, and mid-Atlantic regions, with hundreds of daily record highs and warm lows potentially being set. Major cities such as Detroit, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. are expected to experience temperatures in the upper 90s to low 100s, with some areas facing heat indices as high as 110 degrees.

Authorities warn that the heat poses risks to all residents, not just vulnerable groups, and urge precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. The trend of elevated temperatures is expected to persist throughout the week, with some records dating back to the 1800s at risk of being broken.

Record heat to impact Midwest, East Coast this week

We've got a case of the record highs here across the northeast, the eastern Great Lakes, even some dots in the southeast where we could tie or break records in terms of how hot it's going to be later on this afternoon. And we're going to continue this trend pretty much all week long for us. So here you go with the dots in the northeast as well as the upper Ohio Valley. Here's some examples for you. Temperatures blazing into the upper nineties, including around Detroit, Toledo, Cleveland, definitely cooler by the water. So that's a good way to catch a break, get into the museums like around D. C. Where it's going to be very scorching for you as well. Philadelphia, there are those triple digits and even Boston by the water. It is still going to be hot out there and tomorrow more records could be tied or broken. Some of them long standing that go back to the 18 hundreds. Some of them are a little bit more recent than that. But you can see even down toward the south in the mid atlantic, we've got more records for you tomorrow getting up to 102 Baltimore D. C. 102. So it is really dangerous, not just for the very young, the very old and those of us who have health issues. This is for everyone. This heat can be deadly.
