Alonso is anticipated to implement significant tactical changes, introducing a more flexible and agile playing style compared to previous managers. Barcelona, meanwhile, has started the season with a convincing win, increasing the pressure on their rivals. He says expectations are high, but how high is high in your opinion? Yeah, I mean Real Madrid doesn't get any higher. He'll be expected to win La Liga, if not La Liga and the Champions League. I think for Xabi Alonso it will be a little bit of a grace period because of the changes that he will have to implement. I think he will change styles entirely. I think there's an appreciation that Alonso is a different sort of manager from what we've seen from Real Madrid for quite some time. Zidane, Ancelotti, these are managers that base a lot of their game on getting the best out of their star players and on man management, whereas Alonso in theory is, the way it's been termed in Spain, is more Guardiola-esque in terms of he has a system, he likes things to happen a certain way, but that man management will be tested at Real Madrid where the stars don't get bigger, nor do the expectations. Yeah, we saw a lot of his ethos in Germany, didn't we? From very, very early on he kind of set his stall on the table. But how much of a real read do you think we got from what we saw at the Club World Cup and his stamp on the team? Based on what Xabi Alonso said, quite a clear read. He said that he kind of clarified things in his mind, that they'd put in place the basis for what they wanted to do. I think we'll see a more agile Real Madrid side, one that adapts quicker to other teams. I think one that kind of changes their lineup a little bit more and is just generally a bit more flexible. Whereas last season we saw a Real Madrid side that was ravaged by injuries, but also a team that felt like it kind of ran out of ideas as to how to do things differently or how to respond to the opposition. I think Alonso will bring a freshness of idea as well, but also a kind of fresh atmosphere, a breath of fresh air through the Bernabeu. So I think that's what we can expect from Alonso and I think implementing that will be part of the challenge and part of the thing that will make Real Madrid more interesting and more entertaining this season, but also part of the battle for him. Because if he doesn't get it right, as we say, it doesn't take long for Real Madrid fans to get on your back. Yeah, and we know they're heading into this game against Osasuna later with a number of injuries and suspensions already. How much does what we saw from Barca though in their opening game, that 3-0 win over Mallorca, kind of ramp up the pressure and the feeling in terms of the rivalry between the two sides? Yeah, these two teams are connected, these two clubs are connected by a rope essentially, and if one is high then the other is low and that kind of stays true for the entire season. No two of them can be successful at the same time. So Alonso will be perfectly aware of that. He is a man that, let's not forget, he came into a Real Madrid side managed by Jose Mourinho and so he knows exactly what it's like to come in with the pressure on, with Barcelona kind of all-powerful, a side that has kind of dominated Spain in the last year, but also a side that's played very good football. And so he'll know what it's like to turn up and be spoiler, he'll be well aware of the pressure, but I think times are different from now and I think Real Madrid will be confident that they can wrestle back both the title and kind of the spotlight and the headlines from this Barcelona side.
