The World Press Cartoon exhibition has reopened in Portugal after a two-year hiatus, showcasing around 300 editorial cartoons, caricatures, and graphic works from international publications. This year's event awarded top prizes to works featuring US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, with Montenegro's Darko winning for his depiction of the Statue of Liberty silenced by Trump's signature, and Germany's Frank Hoppmann honored for his caricature of Putin.

The exhibition highlights political themes such as global warming and the conflict in Gaza, alongside commentary on press freedom and censorship. The event is being held at the Palacio Anjos in Algiers and will run until February 8th.

After a two-year break, the World Press Cartoon exhibition has returned to Portugal. Political figures including US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin dominate many of the works. Topics such as global warming and Israel's war in Gaza also took centre stage. The World Press Cartoon is a reference room for the graphic humour published in the press, whether it's editorial cartoons, caricatures or cartoons. Today, with all the fake news, censorship and pressure, I think that with cartoonists fired and newspapers shut down, the World Press Cartoon is a very desirable and beloved exhibition for all cartoonists. This year's big winner was Darko, a cartoonist from Montenegro. His work depicts the Statue of Liberty with her mouth sewn shut by Trump's signature. In my opinion, Trump has stopped all freedom for people in America. He has drawn the line between Mexico and the USA. In my opinion, he has very bad plans. That's why I made his signature shut for every free man. And a rather grotesque drawing of Vladimir Putin won Germany's Frank Hoppmann the first prize in the caricature category. All the scum, whether it's Putin, Erdogan or Trump, they want nothing to do with cartoons, critical drawings or critical media. And that's our job, and of course there's a little bit of courage involved, although we're sitting at home and we're relatively wrapped up in cotton, and we can afford it. The World Press Cartoon displays around 300 works that have been published in newspapers, magazines and websites from across the globe.
