Protests have taken place outside a hotel in Bournemouth where asylum seekers are being accommodated. One group opposes irregular migration and the use of local hotels for housing asylum seekers, citing concerns about the impact on the local tourist industry. Another group, Stand Up to Racism, has gathered to show support for asylum seekers and advocate for safe passage and fair treatment.

Authorities have kept the two groups apart to prevent clashes, a strategy used since protests intensified in recent weeks. While there have been discussions about far-right involvement in organizing the protests, those present deny any such affiliation, identifying themselves as concerned locals on both sides.

Well, protesters have been squaring off in front of a hotel housing asylum seekers for a couple of hours now. Now, on this side of this road, you've got people who say they oppose irregular migration and they say they don't want any asylum seekers housed in hotels in their city. Now, on the other side of the road is a group called Stand Up to Racism, and they say they're here to support and they say defend asylum seekers who are housed in this hotel. As you can see, they're being kept well apart from each other by the police. It's been a tactic that authorities have been deploying since these protests intensified several weeks ago. Now, we spoke to both groups. Take a listen first, what the people who oppose irregular immigration had to say. Well, I'm protesting about the takeover of our hotels, which is our tourist industry down here. The town struggles without these hotels, and one by one, they've been taken over, so. And you live locally here? Yes, I live just 200 yards away, really. And it's the policy of the Home Office to put people in hotels like these. Would you protest against the government, I guess? Oh, of course, yes. It's their policy to put them in the hotel, so obviously, I would protest against the government. Basically, they should be stopped from coming here to start with, and that way, we wouldn't have a hotel problem, would we, so. Now, people on this side of the road want to show those in this hotel that not everyone feels the same way. It's all about allowing these people to have safe passage so there's proper routes for them to come through, and you can't demonize everybody who appears in this country. You need to know the back story, and you need to find out the truth, you know. It's not true that they come and take our houses. It's not true that they get all our jobs. It's far more complicated than that, and stop listening to the headlines and start digging deeper into what the reality is. Now, there's been a lot of talk about far-right involvement in these protests. Certainly, the people we've spoken to over there who oppose irregular migration say they're not far-right. They're concerned locals. Equally, people who say they support refugees say that they are locals. Now, it is undeniable that there's been some far-right impact in terms of organization of these protests, but certainly, the people out here today would deny that they're members of the far-right.
