Meanwhile, domestic politics continue in Australia during Albanese's absence. Notable developments include Barnaby Joyce's announcement that he will not recontest his seat and ongoing debates over environmental legislation, which the government has previously struggled to pass. The government faces challenges in the Senate, particularly with opposition from the Greens.

It's that time of the year where there's a lot of travel for the Prime Minister. It's referred to as summit season. A number of scheduled events for world leaders coming together. The White House trip just happened to occur around the same time. So Anthony Albanese has done very few things domestically since getting back on Thursday. He started today in Uluru. He was there to mark 40 years since Uluru was handed back to the traditional owners and he left for Malaysia from the Northern Territory this afternoon. His first stop is attending the ASEAN Summit, which is a meeting of 11 Southeast Asian countries. Australia isn't actually an ASEAN country, but has long been a prominent partner country, the main focus for Australia is trade and keeping ties with our neighbours. But realistically, the big headlines you're going to see this week out of Asia are from Donald Trump being there, especially later in the week when he meets with the Chinese President Xi Jinping. Now that's not going to happen in Malaysia. It's set to take place at the next summit, APEC in South Korea. And what those two leaders nut out on trade and whether the tensions can be calmed in their trade war, the world will certainly be watching that. So Parliament sitting this week without the PM being there? Yes, politics is continuing at home and what we will be watching here is Barnaby Joyce. What he's going to do back in Canberra after announcing he won't be running again in his seat, and feels his relationship with the Nationals has broken down. Will he still be part of the group? It's a bit unclear even to his colleagues. Then the government is focusing on controversial environmental laws that it's previously tried and failed to land. The laws are around balancing protecting the environment when there are new projects, developments like things for mining and housing. It's set to be contentious, already the Greens aren't happy. And don't forget, the government doesn't have the numbers in the Senate to get legislation through. It's going to be a very interesting week. It will be.
