At this moment, what matters is to act, support the families, assist the injured and ensure all necessary support to the authorities on the ground. Emergency crews work to pull people from the toppled streetcar. Authorities say the accident is the worst in the city's recent history. It's still unclear what caused the crash. It's a tragic situation, truly tragic. There's not much to say except that I hope there were no equipment maintenance errors, especially with the funicular cables. The company which operates the funicular insisted there were recent inspections. Portugal's government said they would open an investigation.
