Pope Leo, who became the leader of the Catholic Church in May, traveled to Turkey for his first foreign trip as pontiff. During his visit, he delivered a speech warning about the future of humanity and denounced the increasing global conflicts. 

While on board the flight, Pope Leo greeted journalists, wished Americans a happy Thanksgiving, and received a Louisville Slugger baseball bat once owned by White Sox legend Nellie Fox, a nod to his Chicago roots. The pope's itinerary includes a stop in Lebanon before returning to Rome.

Pope, to be born in the United States, is traveling on Thanksgiving, like so many of us, and by coincidence, Pope Leo is in Turkey today. In his first overseas speech since becoming the leader of the Catholic Church back in May, Pope Leo warned the future of humanity is at stake, denouncing what he called the heightened level of conflict around the world. CBS News foreign correspondent Chris Livesay is following the pontiff's first foreign trip and had a little Thanksgiving surprise for him. Well, the first papal trip is an opportunity to get the pope outside of his comfort zone, and we didn't know if he was going to come down the aisle and shake hands with all the journalists on board like Pope Francis used to do, but he did not disappoint. Now, he first of all thanked everybody for being there and wished all the Americans on board a happy Thanksgiving, and when it was my turn to shake his hand, I got to give him a prized family heirloom, a Louisville Slugger baseball bat that once belonged to Nellie Fox, the star second baseman, a legend of White Sox baseball when Pope Leo himself was growing up in Chicago. He was amazed. He was visibly amused. He was very grateful. He asked me how the heck I managed to get that thing through security, which is a great story I'll have to tell another time. He wished everybody a happy Thanksgiving. People gave him pumpkin pie, pecan pie, all of that kind of thing. Now he is in Turkey. The next stop is Lebanon, and when he gets back to Rome, if he ever wants to do any batting practice, I've got my glove if he ever needs somebody to shag some fly balls.
