The public should expect to see thousands of NYPD officers deployed throughout Times Square and the surrounding area. Our helicopters and our drones will also be deployed during the day to provide comprehensive coverage in real time. While the NYPD says there are no credible threats to the event this year, the department says it's ramping up security. Officers will now be screening people even beyond the main points of entry as an additional measure with metal detector checks inside the secure viewing areas. We will have mobile screening teams walking around the pens and if we see anything that looks suspicious we will have teams in place. The FBI considers the biggest threats to the New Year's Eve celebration to be lone wolf actors and small groups operating on behalf of extremist organizations.
