A 19-year-old Canadian woman was discovered dead on the eastern side of a well-known Australian island, just north of the Makino shipwreck. Tourists found her body on the beach early in the morning and reported the presence of a pack of dingoes nearby, as well as significant bite injuries.

Police stated that the woman had been working at a nearby backpackers and had reportedly gone for a swim around 5 a.m. Authorities are investigating whether drowning, an animal attack, or other factors contributed to her death. There has not been a fatal dingo attack on the island since 2001, but dingoes are being considered a major possibility in this case.

Emergency services were called over to the island earlier today, and they have just transported the body back of that 19-year-old here to the mainland in Harvey Bay. Police have said that that woman is a Canadian, and she was found on the beach by a group of tourists driving past early this morning. That group also noticed and reported a pack of dingoes nearby, and when they approached the woman's body, they noticed significant bite injuries. Now this all happened on the eastern side of the island, just north of the Makino shipwreck. Police say the young woman had been working at a backpackers nearby, and she reportedly was going for a swim in the ocean around 5 o'clock before this horrible incident unfolded. We'll be considering whether she may have drowned, been attacked, all of those things will be considerations and form part of our investigation. People that were on the island that were travelling down the beach noticed the group of dingoes stopped very quickly, and obviously scared those dingoes away, and uncovered the young lady's body. It's obviously a very confronting thing to see, was a small pack of dingoes there, and obviously the dead body was removed quite quickly. Police are continuing to investigate that exact cause of death. Now there hasn't been a fatal attack on Diary with dingoes since 2001, and dingoes aren't initially being blamed for this incident, but they are being considered as a major possibility.
