Pegula's path to the Australian Open hasn't been straightforward. Nagging injuries through the off-season, a semi-final run in Brisbane that doubled as physical therapy, and now the reality of facing the world's best once again. I had a little bit of a few nagging small injuries that was a little frustrating to deal with but decided to go to Brisbane, get a lot of good practice in, get used to the conditions and ended up playing four really good matches so it actually worked out perfect. Adelaide was scratched. Melbourne became the focus. But it's her rivalry with Arena Sabalenka that's shaped her mindset heading into this tournament. She has beaten me more times but I think we tend to bring out some really good tennis in each other. I think some match-ups like that just happen and it happens to be for me and Sabalenka is that we tend to have some pretty crazy matches, really high level I've always thought and even though it's frustrating sometimes maybe that I'm not getting as many wins as I feel like I could be. I mean she is the best player in the world now for a reason. She challenges me and pushes me to figure out how to become better. The preparation's been unconventional but Pegula's ready. She faces Anastasia Zakharova Monday.
