The one-year countdown to the start of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games has begun. The organizing committee unveiled the design for the Olympic torch and promised to reduce the Games' carbon footprint by half.

Paris, used to the spotlight, now in full preparation. Spectacular games but also the games with purpose, engaged. And that's why we want to reduce by half the carbon footprint. With much of Europe dealing with unprecedented heat, the health of athletes is top of mind. There are no plans to use air conditioners in the athletes' village. Instead, a water cooling system is being set up under the village. Organisers say they learned lessons from Tokyo where the heat and humidity caused dozens to fall ill. Contingency plans will be in place to change schedules if need be. In is Canada's chef de mission, former track and field gold medalist Bruni Sourin. Everybody's working very hard behind the scene in order to make the athletes to reach their potential. Most of those athletes are focused on qualifying for Paris, though some have a prior engagement. Canada's women's soccer players are putting their Olympic gold medal defence on temporary hold. Obviously, yeah, you know, it's in the foreseeable future but I think right now we're at this tournament, we're at a World Cup and that's our main focus. Sourin has some key advice for the athletes. In one year, we have an appointment. Never forget the fun factor. Always say to yourself, you do it for you. That as Paris preps for one of the biggest sporting events in the world.
