The parents of Dr. Benjamin Harouni are launching a dental floss their son had created before he was murdered at Smile Plus Dentistry in El Cajon.

The family of Dr. Benjamin Harouni, who was killed while working at his dental clinic, has continued his work by completing the development of his dental floss product, Loveline. Dr. Harouni had recently established the business before his death, and his mother has since taken over the company, expanding its reach to dental clinics in 11 states.

In addition to launching the product, the family founded a nonprofit, Hearts Over Hate, to support other families affected by violent crime. A portion of the proceeds from Loveline floss sales goes toward supporting victims of violence and providing free dental care. The family remains committed to preserving Dr. Harouni's legacy and sharing his story.

The family of a doctor who was murdered by his patient is making sure his legacy lives on. It's been a year and a half now since Dr. Benjamin Harouni was shot and killed while working at Smile Plus Dentistry in El Cajon. Tonight, ABC 10 News reporter Perla Shaheen follows through with his family to hear how they're carrying out Benjamin's goals after his life was cut short. At 28 years old, Dr. Benjamin Harouni had big plans for the future. He was working at his father's dental clinic and had just established an LLC for a new floss called Loveline. The very last conversation Ben and I had was about, he was extremely excited about this floss that he was developing. Benjamin's dreams were cut short in February last year when El Cajon police say a disgruntled patient shot and killed him at work. I first met the Harouni family at Benjamin's vigil a couple weeks later and have followed through with them ever since. I miss him so, so, so, so much. I can't, I can't explain that. I wish I could tell him that one last time. It's hard to describe the excruciating pain of losing a sibling or son, but Benjamin's brothers and parents continue to find meaningful ways to honor his memory. They remembered his love of surfing at a paddle out with family and friends. They started a nonprofit called Hearts Over Hate to support other families who were victims of violent crimes. And now they've finished the development of Benjamin's dental floss. Benjamin's floss became a mission for me. He left me a project and I see it as a gift and I'm very happy that we're sharing it with the world. His mom took over the Loveline LLC. It's been only a couple months, but dental clinics across 11 states currently offer the floss to their patients. Part of every purchase goes towards supporting victims of violence in the community and providing free dental work. Honestly, I feel like Ben's love is, is what's keep pushing me. Every single day that I wake up is how I can make him proud and how he would have want to live his life. Harouni says she'll never stop sharing Benjamin's story and ensuring his legacy lives on. It's now scheduled for august 26th. We will follow through to the end of his trial.
