A woman was killed after police said her husband drove a truck through their Clairemont home.

A man was detained by San Diego police after allegedly driving his car into his own home in Clairemont, resulting in the death of his wife. The incident occurred outside Fontana Avenue and triggered a fire inside the house, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

Police are investigating whether the crash or the subsequent fire caused the woman's death. The driver, who had recently moved out due to mental health issues and was subject to a temporary restraining order, is currently hospitalized with significant injuries.

One person is dead after police say a driver intentionally drove his car through a home in Claremont. That's where we find our Adam Campos right now and Adam, you just got an update on the driver. Police say the man behind the wheel has been detained. Hey, good morning Mel. Yeah, that's right. We just heard from San Diego Police about a half hour ago and it's a heartbreaking situation what just happened here. We are right here outside of Fontana Avenue where the car went into the home and police tell us the man who lives here intentionally drove the car into his home and killed his wife. And police are still here with the streets blocked off while they are investigating a tow truck also just arriving shortly ago as they're continuing all of this right now. And this happened at around 7 30 this morning. A fire also sparked inside of the house after the crash and San Diego fire. They were able to put it out pretty quickly. Police ended up detaining the driver shortly after. He's in the hospital right now with what police call significant injuries. They're still trying to figure out however, if the crash or if the fire is what killed the woman. And we spoke to a neighbor who heard the crash this morning and says it was shocking to see it all unfold. I thought just construction, you know, across the canyon. So I was like, oh, they're working early already. And then I thought I heard a yell, but you know, it didn't. It didn't click until I came out and started seeing everything. And bar young says he's known the couple who lived here since he moved into the neighborhood in 2017. And he described them as a very friendly and outgoing family. And he says over the last few months, the husband dealt with a lot of mental health issues, and he actually moved out of the home about a month ago because of these issues he was dealing with. And he says that he actually just spoke with the wife who lived here at the home about a week ago, saying that they were having their sons over for Christmas, and they hadn't really heard from the husband about his situation or anything about him after he moved out of the home. So again, a very heartbreaking situation for this to unfold, you know, just right around the holidays. And San Diego police also tell us that the temporary restraining order had just been placed on the man not too long ago. We're not sure exactly who put the restraining order on, but that is the details that we have right now, Mel. So we'll go ahead and send it back to you in studio live in Claremont Mesa.
