A house fire occurred in the early morning hours in Lawnton, Queensland, trapping five people inside. Emergency services responded quickly, but one person, identified as a 13-year-old, was found deceased in the home.

Authorities have launched a forensic investigation to determine the cause of the fire, focusing on the possibility of an e-scooter battery or gas bottle being involved. The crime scene is expected to remain active for several days as officials work to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In the early hours of a rainy Sunday morning. Like banging sounds and then I came out and just saw the house on fire. Those bangs followed by harrowing cries for help. Before that for about 10 minutes I heard a lot of screaming and people trying to save themselves. It was not fighting anything like it was the screams of that pain. As five people were trapped in an inferno. Crews were called to the home in Launton 40 minutes north of Brisbane just after 5.30am. It was certainly a situation that police would not prefer or preferred not to attend on every occasion. Bystanders say they watched firefighters do everything they can to save those inside who were two adults and three teens. The ambulance and the fire brigade had hoses on them, soft hoses, the two people. But for one, it was too late. A subsequent investigation has identified one deceased person located within the dwelling at that premises. 10 News understands the person that died was just 13 years old. We've now enlisted not only our forensic people but also the Queensland Fire Department forensic people. Fire investigators are now working to see if it was an e-scooter battery or a gas bottle that started the deadly inferno. As I understand it there is some vehicles, an e-scooter and perhaps an e-bike but yet that's still fully part of our investigations. The crime scene could remain on this street for days as authorities hope to prevent a tragedy like this happening again. It was hectic, it was black smoke everywhere, it was full on.
