The tumult caused by the illegal gathering of the convict supporters has a strong chance of putting at risk the house arrest and the other precautionary measures allowing for his eventual escape. In January 2023, Bolsonaro supporters stormed government buildings in the Brazilian capital ahead of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's inauguration. Bolsonaro was put on trial for seeking to stage a coup. Prosecutors claimed his plot included plans to kill Lula and encourage an insurrection. After years of trials and appeals, Bolsonaro was found guilty in September and sentenced to 27 years in prison. The 70-year-old former president has already spent over 100 days under house arrest. Protests by Bolsonaro supporters are expected throughout the weekend. The Brazilian Supreme Court will hold an extraordinary session on Monday to vote on the arrest order.
