At least 26 cases of sudden dog illness are now potentially linked to the Venice Canals.

Health officials in Venice have detected algae toxins in the city's canals during an investigation into several recent dog deaths. According to the Department of Public Health, 26 dogs have become ill and five have died since the end of July.

Authorities are still working to determine the exact cause of these incidents. In the meantime, officials are advising people and their pets to avoid swimming in the Venice Canals as a precautionary measure.
