The Northeast is getting a break from the rain on July 2, but the risk for severe thunderstorms will be right back on Thursday.

The Northeast region is experiencing a temporary reprieve from recent heavy rainfall and flash flooding, but meteorologists warn that severe thunderstorms are expected to return. Areas north of Interstate 80, including parts of New England and eastern Pennsylvania, face the highest risk of damaging winds, hail, and additional flash flooding.

Following this renewed storm activity, a cold front is forecast to bring lower humidity and more comfortable conditions, setting the stage for a warm but not excessively hot holiday weekend. Temperatures are expected to be near historical averages with plenty of sunshine, providing relief after the unsettled weather.

Northeast braces for more late-week storms

Again, most of the storms right now are kind of pivoting through north central parts of Wisconsin, but they're going to continue to move toward the Green Bay area in Traverse City, Michigan. You could see some action in the hours to come. Look at Berks County P. A. Yesterday. What a mess. Flash flooding was a big problem. We will see a return of strong thunderstorms. Some of these north of Interstate 80 tomorrow. Some will be severe again on Thursday, uh, with the risk for severe weather all the way down to the Pennsylvania Maryland line. But the farther north you are, the greater the threats may be with damaging wind and hail potential. Uh, and that flash flooding in Lancaster County was a huge problem. We had a flash flood emergency around midnight late, late Monday night into Tuesday morning and then another influx of heavy rain during the day Tuesday. So it's been tough and we're getting a nice break today. But there are the storms tomorrow. Some of these will be severe in parts of New England and eastern Pennsylvania yet again on Thursday. And as that swarm moves east, that opens the door for a beautiful start to the holiday weekend. So another cold front is gonna kick on through. And again, we're gonna get a nice bit of lower humidity into the neighborhood, setting the table for a beautiful July 4th holiday. Nice, comfortable, drier weather. It'll be warm, but not terribly hot. So some July 4th forecast putting us right around historical average temps this time of the year with a good deal of sun.
