At least 150 students and teachers remain in captivity, and no group has claimed responsibility for the abduction, though locals suspect armed gangs seeking ransom. The incident is part of a series of recent mass abductions targeting schools in northern Nigeria.

Gunmen seized over 300 students and 12 of their teachers during an attack on St Mary's Catholic School on November 21st. The families of the captives had to endure weeks of anxiety and frustration until a hundred children were released over the weekend. It has not been easy with me, I'm so sad about it, but today, in fact, I have a little bit of joy, despite the fact that there is still one, an under-adopted one, but I'm now happy with this one that I've got. Details surrounding the children's release were not made public and the government has not said if any ransom was paid. We thank all the security agencies that helped in the rescuing of our children. We are pleading that God should give them more strength to be able to rescue the remaining children. Fifty students had escaped in the hours that followed the attack. In total, at least 150 are still held together with the teachers. No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction, but locals blamed armed gangs that target schools and travellers in kidnappings from ransoms in northern Nigeria.
