He's not a household name but Toronto Raptors backup center Jonte Porter is now in the spotlight. The subject of an NBA investigation into gambling irregularities that could potentially have massive implications. Porter is away from the team, it says, for personal reasons. I cannot comment. The investigation is ongoing and so all of those questions they got to go straight to to to the league and they will be the best equipped to answer those questions. In sports betting there are wagers known as prop bets. Not bets on the specific outcome of a game but bets on things like how many points or rebounds an individual player might get. Betters can choose whether to bet over or under that total and it's a bet that players could potentially have control over. In Porter's case the league is looking at two games where he barely played before pulling himself from the game once with an injury, once due to illness. It's definitely not good. Don't want to read too much into it and make accusations right away but the optics are terrible. This sports gambling professional points out once he left the games those betting the under on Porter's performance would win. Getting out of the game pretty much guarantees that all those unders are going to hit. We don't know how much money was wagered or paid out But betting site DraftKings said prop bets involving Porter were their biggest losses of the season. That just doesn't happen nowadays so it seems likely that something took place here that was a little bit fishy. It's totally up to you, it's your bet. Gambling once existed in the shadows but now it's seemingly everywhere. For players in all major league sports it's being a rapid shift. All my people know not to hit me up about stuff like that even if they do, I won't answer. Definitely on social media, that's what everyone's DMs after games is about. But it comes with the game. Well I think the NBA will conduct an investigation and if these allegations around Jaunte Porter turn out to be true he won't play ever again in the NBA.
