The National Hurricane Center is tracking two areas of interest in the Atlantic. First is an area of low pressure that is expected to form off the Southeast coast of the U.S. this weekend. The chance for tropical development is low, but the mid-Atlantic will see gusty winds and coastal flooding along the beaches with a high risk for rip currents into the weekend.

Meteorologists are monitoring several areas for potential tropical development as hurricane season intensifies. One area off the Carolina coast has a 20% chance of development, while another system, designated as invest 96L, has a 60% chance of forming within the next week if it moves away from stabilizing dust. Most forecast models currently show these systems tracking northward, which is considered favorable as it keeps them away from land, including Bermuda. Additional storms are emerging from the coast of Africa, typical for this stage of the season, with high pressure steering many of them north. However, some systems may take a more southern path, potentially moving closer to the Caribbean islands, warranting continued observation.

Now the areas to watch we've got one area to watch off the Carolina Coast. Yet again, Hurricane Center giving that 20%. We've got an invest area 96 L that has a 60% chance of developing, not in the next two days, but more like the next seven days. If it gets away from some of that dust, keeping it pretty stable for the time being. So 10% two days 60%, but notice the hatched area taking it a turn more toward the north, which is great news. We like to see that the models as you can see, bringing it northbound Northwest initially, then North and then even turning toward the Northeast. So even places like Bermuda, thankfully kind of out of the way. Here is a look at not just that entity, but other storms that are rolling off the coast of Africa as we focus on the main development region. The Cape Verde Islands, by the way, are right over here. So this is our Cape Verde season, really, where we start to see some systems develop out over the far eastern Atlantic Ocean storms that are basically starting over Africa. And then moving right across the tropical conversion zone. So the one thing that's been good news is the fact that we've had high pressure aloft steering these waves, keeping them a little bit more toward the north and not really allowed to get on that southern track. However, they still bear watching. As you'll see, we do have that one system that goes north, but other systems that are moving off the coast of Africa. As you can see this one right here. As a matter of fact, as we head towards next Wednesday, Thursday, taking that more southern track, maybe getting a little closer to the Indian Islands.
