Investigations by authorities suggest that the motive behind the attack was linked to Islamic extremist beliefs, although there has been no connection to organized radical networks found thus far. This attack marks the fifth in a series of similar incidents over the past nine months in Germany, noted for involving immigrants as perpetrators. 

This tragic event took place shortly before upcoming federal elections in Germany, intensifying the ongoing debates surrounding immigration policies. Discussions on immigration have significantly influenced the political landscape, benefiting parties such as the Alternative for Germany party, which advocates for stricter immigration controls. This party has been projected to potentially secure around 20% of the votes in the elections.

It was the fifth in a string of attacks involving immigrants over the past nine months in Germany. It also came just over a week before the country holds its federal elections, with immigration being one of the forefront issues. Immigration debates have paved the way for Germany's far right to make significant gains politically. The Alternative for Germany party, which promises to crack down on immigration, is currently projected to win around 20 percent of next week's vote.
