A large-scale Russian aerial attack struck Ukraine, killing at least 19 people and injuring dozens, according to Ukrainian officials. The assault involved hundreds of drones and missiles, with strikes reported both near the front lines and in western cities such as Lviv and Ternopil, leading to widespread power outages at the onset of winter.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that current international pressure on Russia is insufficient and called for increased action. The attacks coincided with Zelensky's diplomatic visit to Turkey, where he aims to engage Turkish leadership in efforts to restart peace talks, although no Russian representatives are participating at this stage.

More deadly Russian strikes rock Ukraine

Russia has launched yet another massive overnight aerial barrage across Ukraine, killing at least 19 people and injuring dozens more. This is according to Ukrainian officials. CBS News Foreign Correspondent Rami Inocencio joins us from our London newsroom with details on this. Rami, good morning. What can you tell us about this latest attack? Errol, yes. Good morning there. The attack last night was really close to being one of Russia's biggest drone attacks in this war ever since 2022. We're looking at the numbers here, 476 drones, according to President Zelensky, along with 48 crews and ballistic missiles. Now, the military said that seven of those missiles got through Ukraine's air defenses, along with about three dozen drones. And the hits were across the country, close to the front lines, but also far west from those front lines. In Lviv, to the west, near the Polish border, explosions and fires there. We're looking at destruction in the city of Ternopil, I believe, here. Two apartment blocks were hit. Energy facilities were hit there that caused power outages, with pretty much all of Ukraine's regions reporting some kind of loss of power during this—the start of this winter. Also in Kharkiv, it's just half an hour from the border with Russia. More drone attacks there injured at least 46 people. Emergency crews we saw rescued dozens of people there from one high-rise apartment. And Zelensky has said that this shows, from these massive attacks across the country, the current pressure, the international pressure on Russia, is just not enough, and he says that more needs still to be done. And tell us more about that, because all of this is happening as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is in Turkey. He was speaking with the French leader earlier this week. What is he hoping to achieve in talks in Turkey? Right. This most recent push by Zelensky across Europe and now in Turkey. A bit of context here. Turkey has maintained stable ties with both Russia and the U.S. through this war, and Zelensky is hoping to work with Turkey's prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to bring in Putin—hopefully to bring him in—to restart talks to end this war. He landed early this morning, but this time, even though he wants those talks, there is no representative from Russia, so it will be at least one-sided today. The Kremlin said that there are no plans for Putin to engage, but that he was, quote—the quote here is, of course, open to a conversation. President Trump, we've seen, has been ramping up pressure on Putin in the past couple months. He called for a freezing of the battle lines in the east, an end to the war and sanctions on countries that import Russia—Russian oil, India, China in particular. And just this morning, just in the past hour, a U.S. official has confirmed to CBS News that U.S. Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll is now in Ukraine. This is as part of a delegation. The aim there, again, restarting peace talks separately. There is a report from Axios this morning, which we can't confirm, but saying that the White House is drafting a 28-point peace plan. Does it sound similar? Because it sounds similar to the Gaza peace plan from President Trump. But the Kremlin has so far, at least, played that down for now. Very interesting. All right. Ramy Innocencio in London with the latest for us.
