The standoff back in 2024 began as a domestic violence call after Martin assaulted his children's mother with the kids present. Police tried getting Martin to surrender, but he shot at them over a dozen times, hitting and injuring Officer Dan Morrell. Martin convicted of 10 felonies, including four counts of attempted homicide with a dangerous weapon. I've watched the strongest person I know endure pain, limitations and struggles no one should have to face for simply doing their job and serving their community. Accountability matters. Justice matters. And recognizing the true weight of what was taking from us matters. Martin asked for leniency, pleading with the judge to allow him a chance to be a father to his children someday. The state originally requesting 60 years initial confinement with 15 years extended supervision, while the defense asking for 15 and 15.
