Governor-Elect Mikie Sherrill attended a holiday food distribution event in West Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, where she addressed local concerns about inflation and tariffs. Sherrill criticized former President Trump and his family for benefiting financially while residents face economic pressures. 

The event, held near the Turtle Back Zoo, provided boxes containing forty meals each to families in need. Sherrill's inauguration as New Jersey's governor is scheduled for January 20th in Newark.

She was asked about comments that President Trump delivered in a primetime speech, many describe as politically charged. News 12's Kimberly Buck in West Orange with more. Even with remarks last night with Trump's speech, I mean, we're talking about inflation and, you know, that's exactly what we're trying to combat here is keeping prices low, so if you have any remarks there. I, you know, as you're aware, being here in New Jersey, I ran a campaign over the last year where I spoke to thousands and thousands of New Jerseyans and they are feeling the pressure from these tariffs, from inflation, and I think they're well aware that as all of this is going on, Trump and his family are enriching themselves, so that dichotomy is really upsetting to people across the state. This morning, Governor-Elect of New Jersey Mikey Sherrill attended a holiday food distribution event here in Essex County, right near the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange. Folks came out from all over to participate and volunteer in the festive event and spread holiday cheer, of course. Forty meals were included in each box, including non-vegetable items from everything from peanut butter and jelly and pasta to a turkey.
