A mid-week weather system, known as a clipper, is expected to bring snow and wind to parts of the Northeast United States. Brief snow may occur in Chicago, while Detroit is likely to see more sustained snowfall, especially later in the day. 

The heaviest snow is forecast for the higher elevations of New York State, where accumulations could reach 12 to 18 inches. Additional snow is possible near Lake Erie, Lake Michigan, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula due to cold air passing over relatively warm water. Another system is expected to impact many of the same areas following this event.

That transition line is likely going to stay in the same areas. Do we see some snow in Chicago? If we do, it'll be very brief and I'll let Paul talk about that in a minute. Detroit is likely to see the snow, especially by the second half of the day, where we finally get out of that rain snow freezing line mix Pittsburgh. You're going to stay in a little bit of a mix throughout the day where we're really going to see the snow come down is going to be some of those higher elevations of New York State. And you know when you look at the snowfall map, you really see those higher elevations stick out, but we'll even see some of the snow lingering and off, say Lake Erie. Or Lake Michigan, even even the UP of Michigan could see some additional snowfall through tonight just with the flow of that really cold air over what is still relatively warm water. But as mentioned, here are some of the higher peaks here in New York State where we could see 12 to 18 inches of snow. And there's actually another system that comes in after this, blanketing many of the same areas.
