Michigan has launched a statewide initiative to erase medical debt for over 200,000 residents. The program, announced by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, is a collaboration with a nonprofit organization that purchases and forgives medical debt. 

Through this partnership, $144 million in medical debt has been forgiven. Residents whose debt has been relieved will be notified by mail about the change.
