According to the NFL, there are approximately 11 million league followers in Spain, and 90% of tickets for the game have been sold locally. Numerous fan events have been organized in Madrid, and the city has seen an influx of international visitors, including fans from Germany and Sweden. The game marks a significant milestone for the NFL's international expansion.

The Washington Commanders and Miami Dolphins are looking to get their seasons back on track and, hey, maybe a change of scenery is what they need. Who doesn't want a trip to Spain? The two teams are playing in the first regular season NFL game in Spain on Sunday. CBS News Miami lead sports anchor Mike Cugno is in Madrid. What a plum assignment, Mike. You're covering this game. Stadium's getting ready. Now, there's no fans in the stand just yet. But what is the atmosphere like around the stadium and around this major event? Well, let me tell you, there's a lot of excitement. I think a lot of jealousy from some of my co-workers back home. They're mad seeing me eat all the tapas and churros. I can. But let me tell you something, the vibes here, the atmosphere, it's really cool. We're at Atlético Madrid stadium right now. This is where the Miami Dolphins have been practicing. But around town and around this game, there's a lot of excitement. Obviously, it's the first game ever that the NFL is going to host here in terms of a regular season game. You kind of see a lot of aqua, a lot of orange here. Miami Dolphins, the host team, so they've kind of flooded the area. When you get ready for a game like this, it's almost got that Super Bowl atmosphere. Because so many people from different parts of the world, and of course, the US, kind of flood in here because they just want to see one of these international games. So it's interesting to see what the fan breakdown is going to be. But in terms of the game itself, yes, both teams would like to get back on track. The Miami Dolphins looking for back-to-back wins for the first time this season. But Sunday's game, it's going to be an awesome atmosphere. There's a lot of fandom already getting going here in Spain, and it's been a lot of fun. Nice. And you know what I wonder is, because the NFL has done this in London and some other cities locally, which team has more support? Is it the Dolphins? Is it the Commanders? Do the Spaniards even care? They just want to enjoy the game. And I'm just so stunned at a stadium where you are seeing the American football goalpost up when they're used to seeing balls hit into nets. You said it. Football lines and a football goalpost, a little different look out here for sure. But in terms of the fans, the NFL says they have something like 11 million league followers in Spain alone, and that 90% of the tickets have been sold to this game, have been sold in the region. So there is a lot of football fans that the NFL believes are here, and that's going to be the majority, the makeup of the fan base. There is about that 10% that's coming from the United States. And I'll give the Miami Dolphins the lead here. From what we've seen around town, definitely a lot more Aqua. I've seen some Commander fans, but with Miami being the home team, the host team here, there's been a lot of activations, a lot of fan events geared towards the Miami Dolphins. And so if you had to break down that 10% or even expand it out to the 90% coming from the area, there's a lot of Dolphin fans here. We've met Dolphin fans from Germany, from Sweden, all over the world, and of course back home in Miami. That is incredible. And the Europeans just have to get used to timeouts and stopping every few minutes since they're used to 90-minute football matches where you just keep going.
