Emilio Martinez, identified as the leader of the group, faced court for sentencing and received an 18-month community corrections order, avoiding prison despite a history of violent offending. 

During the attack, bystanders intervened to rescue the victim, sustaining injuries themselves as they faced blows and projectiles. Police seized a knife at the scene, and it was revealed that Martinez and the victim had previous altercations. Another participant, Royce Jensen, had previously been jailed for his role in the incident.

There were four or five kids who were actually stomping on his head. 18-year-old Emilio Martinez fronted court for sentencing today, flanked by supporters. The court heard he was leader of the pack. Why were you attacking the boy? Martinez avoided prison today despite a violent history of offending. He was sentenced to an 18-month community corrections order. The magistrates said it was a very significant high-end affray involving a lot of young men acting like wild animals. You were right in the middle of that. Witnesses dining nearby threw themselves into the middle of the group to drag the teenage victim to safety inside a nearby restaurant. They copped blows to the head and dodged glass bottles thrown as projectiles. Took a few punches to the head, I had a bit of a sore head. Police seized a knife at the scene. Martinez said he and the victim were from Western Sydney and they'd had altercations before. I realised angry work, really toxic work and said I will kill you, I will punch you. Another man, 21-year-old Royce Jensen, was jailed for a year in April after spitting on diners who tried to intervene as the group attempted to barge into the restaurant.
