Louisiana was drenched by a tropical rainstorm on July 17 as the system continued to move inland into July 18. As of right now, AccuWeather's Alex DaSilva reports no new tropical threat for next week.

Southern Louisiana experienced widespread heavy rainfall as a tropical rainstorm moved inland, with some areas receiving between four and eight inches of rain. The eastern side of New Orleans was particularly affected, while the New Orleans airport saw less than an inch. Most of the heavy rain has subsided, though isolated pockets of additional rainfall and potential flash flooding remain possible.

Meteorologists report that no new tropical systems are expected to develop in the Atlantic in the coming week due to prevailing dry air and wind shear. While some atmospheric patterns could bring further rain to the region, the likelihood of hurricane formation in the northern Gulf is currently low. Experts will continue to monitor conditions as the Atlantic hurricane season progresses.

Louisiana Gulf Coast drenched by tropical rainstorm

Alex, let's just put a ribbon and a bow and let's just say farewell to our tropical rainstorm. We're just looking at some reports and pockets of heavy rain in the parishes of Louisiana across the central and southern parishes, I should say. Yeah, a general four to eight inches occurred across southern Louisiana. The airport, MSY New Orleans Airport, actually saw under an inch, but on the eastern side of the city, they got crushed five, six, seven inches of rain. So really impressive storm with those pockets of heavier rainfall. You can see right now, heaviest across east Texas. Hard to even see where the center of circulation is, but we do think it's going to be drifting slowly northward today. Yeah, I think most of the heavy rain is done with, but there could be some pockets of an additional one to three inches or so across southern Louisiana during the day today. So watch out for some pockets of flash flooding. All right, footage yesterday across New Iberia, where the rain was coming on down yesterday. All right, let's talk about where we're going here forward in the tropics. Let's just take an overview. Let's start off with the water vapor loop across the whole tropical Atlantic. Yeah, taking a look across the Atlantic, a lot of dry air. You can see that indicated by the orange and yellow colors coming across the Atlantic. So it doesn't look like anything's going to be developing here over the next week or so. The shear is slowly beginning to lessen, and we expect that as we move into the month of August. But right now, I think most of the Atlantic is closed for business. All right, so that means we always look for what? Homegrown development. And we have a very interesting setup next week. In fact, it's very similar to what we saw this week. We begin with that big upper high that's going to be building from the Atlantic for off the southeast coast, and it sets up shop next week across the parts of the Tennessee Valley. Yeah, it certainly does. And actually, some of the DNA from this previous rainstorm might actually go all the way around the area of high pressure and might actually be a part of this next potential rainstorm. It's going to be at the tail end of a front. You get a little bit of spin, and then it moves underneath the high. You can see that indicated by the yellow here. This is area of spin coming into the Gulf next week, and then we have to watch for some development. Now, the wind shear seems a little strong, but we're early on in the process. But I guess the idea is this, Alex. We're not going to see any development in Tropical Atlantic. If we see any development next week, this is the area to watch. Yeah, I think so. And like you just mentioned, the wind shear is going to be probably a little bit stronger than what we were just dealing with. So if anything develops, it will probably be a tropical depression or tropical storm. We don't expect a hurricane to form in the northern Gulf at this time. As we look forward, Alex, in the crystal ball through August, anything that concerns you? Yeah, what's concerning me is the trends that we're seeing that we're probably going to see lessening wind shear and lessening dry air, especially as we move into the month of August. So as expected, I think the main development region of the Atlantic will begin to wake up as we approach the statistical peak of the season. Yeah, I always say we're in the doldrums from the 15th through August 15th, but it's not like that every year. Alex DaSilva, he'll keep us updated.
