Three Long Island high school baseball players are poised to be selected in the upcoming Major League Baseball draft. Jaden Stroman of Medford excelled both as a pitcher and hitter, earning the Suffolk County Player of the Year title after a strong season. Michael Olivetto from Hophag is recognized as the state's top catching prospect, noted for his power and leadership on the field. Nick Frusco, a left-handed pitcher from Miller Place, impressed scouts with his pitching at the draft combine and private workouts, and has met with numerous teams ahead of the draft. The draft will take place over two days, with the first three rounds on the opening day.

So you want to be a big leaguer? Well for most guys the road to the show starts by getting drafted. This year's draft starts Sunday night. It's a two-day event and three Long Islanders fresh out of high school will be picked. Medford's Jaden Stroman did it all at Pet Med High School this year. Stroman was 5-0 as a starter. He racked up 50 strikeouts. He's got a fastball already in the high 90s and a passion for the big moments. I feel like it's always nice to have the ball because you're kind of in control of the pace of the game but being able to hit you know getting a barrel is always the best feeling ever. Jaden did that a lot too. He batted 456 this season and scored 41 runs and that combination of pitching and power made him the Suffolk County Player of the Year. I feel like God gave me the ability to be able to do everything so I'm just gonna maximize it until somebody tells me to do otherwise. Hophag's Michael Olivetto is the state's number one ranked catching prospect. He's a late bloomer with a lot of power. In fact the lefty led the island with 17 home runs in the past two seasons. He batted 435 this year and as a junior led Hophag to its only Long Island championship. He's also a three-time all-county catcher who really enjoys calling the game. Just you know piecing together what's what's going right that day and trying to get those pieces to fit and work out. It's fun. The draft should also be fun for Nick Frusco. Nick is a six-foot-four lefty pitcher from Miller Place. Like Jaden and Michael Nick also attended the draft combine and showed off a fastball in the low 90s and last month he had a private workout with the Pirates in Pittsburgh. Like I had to embrace it like I just had to look around for a second look at everything and just know that I'm meant to be there. Nick also had a great senior year. He gave up only 10 hits and struck out 73 batters. He's met with 25 teams leading into the draft and said he did his best to sell them on his heart too. I hope I show them kind of like a sense of leadership that I can kind of control the game just just so they know that I'm I'm there to play and there to win.
