City officials note that while significant progress has been made, there is still work to be done, and they are seeking ways to expand resources and staffing to meet growing community interest.

And this morning we want to highlight a bright spot though when it comes to facing climate change. We are going to head to Lakewood that was just recognized for being a climate leader. I had a chance to sit down with them about what sets them apart. One of them is their program called the sustainable neighborhood program. The city helps individual neighborhoods with different programs, everything from waste management and reduction, building out tree canopies, community gardens and the city is well aware. They've been hearing from you that it's very popular, more people want to join and they are actively looking for ways to expand their resources and staffing to do so. I think climate change is really hard work addressing that and um we're really always focused on our projects and policy. So to take a break and be recognized for all our hard work was really rewarding. Lakewood was recognized internationally by the nonprofit called C. D. P. They're working on tracking progress on this front. It was actually the fourth time they've been recognized like this and probably not a huge surprise. Colorado and other individual cities made the list as well. It took a lot of rigorous reporting that shows Lakewood is making some progress with a long way to go, but the city says it was worth it because they know what people want is transparency from them.
