Lake County, Florida, experienced a rare flash flood emergency after an estimated 12 to 16 inches of rain fell within six hours, washing out roads and flooding homes. The event, which has not occurred in the area since Hurricane Ian in 2022, left several roads impassable and required significant emergency response.

Local officials, including the mayor of Mount Dora, reported over 16 inches of rainfall in just four hours, resulting in damaged infrastructure such as water mains. Neighboring Brevard County also faced standing water and flood warnings, though conditions have since improved. Flash flood watches remain in effect as cleanup operations continue.

Mhm. Welcome back to Accuweather ahead. Central florida is in cleanup mode after a night of extreme rain in Lake County florida. A rare flash flood emergency washed out roads, stranded motorists and flooded several homes. Accuweather's Leslie Hudson has more on the damage and what's next as advisories linger after some wild weather in central florida on sunday. It is major cleanup as we head through today. Now I'm in mount door which is in the interior part of central florida. Over my shoulder is Donnelly street and it is completely washed out just behind me. It is just one of a dozen or so roads that are either washed out or shut down from the flash flooding that moved through the area late sunday night. Now a rare flash flood emergency was issued in Lake County and that has not happened since Hurricane Ian in 2022. So a lot of rain came down in this area. The Doppler radar estimates are anywhere from 12 to 16 inches of rain in just the course of six hours or less. Now we talked to the mayor of mount dora who has lived here since the 1970s. We had 16.24 inches of rainfall in four hours and behind us they're um fixing a water main that got washed out. I mean this obviously this hill has been here since I was a kid. So I, you know, we've never obviously seen anything like this. I came down the street, I saw the police officers um and they had the road blocked off. So I still didn't realize that it was that bad until I got, I came back and parked over there and got out and walked over parts of east central florida also hit hard in Brevard County. Many areas reporting standing water flood warnings all along coastal Brevard County last night. Things will markedly improved today.
