Calling King Charles on multiple occasions a friend. Just as he did upon landing on British soil. He's been a friend of mine for a long time and everybody respects him. And they love him. All state visits are about soft power diplomacy. But the cherry on the cake for Trump is that this state visit is his second. That's unprecedented. Buckingham Palace, which issues the invitation upon advisement with the government, confirmed that no other elected leader in modern times has been invited for a second state visit. Which has extra trappings. For some Americans in the UK, it's win-win. He's a big fan of the royals. He's a big fan of this country. He's very fond of the UK. So if there's any place in the world that he would want to do a state visit, it's here in the United Kingdom. Trump's fascination for the royal family dates back far beyond his first state visit in June 2019, hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II. In his books, Trump credits his showmanship to his late Scottish mother, who he said admired the royals. And he expressed regret that his attempts to date a recently divorced Princess Diana failed. There have been other missteps too. Rumours swirled in the 1980s that Prince Charles was buying an apartment in Trump Tower. A false report allegedly planted by Trump himself. Trump's invitation to Charles to join his Mar-a-Lago club was also refused. On social media, Trump wrote Wales wrong as well, adding an H. He also praised stolen topless photos of Kate Middleton. And has repeatedly bashed Meghan Markle, calling her terrible. But this second state visit is indeed a means of cementing the UK and the US's special relationship. That is, if protesters don't tarnish the bling. For there is also the Jeffrey Epstein connection. For Trump, Prince Andrew and now sacked UK ambassador Peter Mandelson's friendships with the sex offender.
