In Japan, Trump was welcomed at the Imperial Palace and is scheduled to meet with the country's new prime minister, Sanae Takahashi, who recently assumed office and is seeking to improve ties with the United States.

Prime Minister Takahashi has already made a gesture of friendship by offering to purchase a fleet of Ford F-150 trucks from the U.S. for official use, despite their impracticality for Japan's narrow streets. The visit comes after previous tensions between Trump and Japan's former leader over trade issues. Trump's itinerary also includes planned meetings in South Korea and China.

In Tokyo, Trump was welcomed at the Imperial Palace, where he took part in a courtesy column visit with Japanese Emperor Naruhito. He is also due to meet with Japan's new prime minister, Sanae Takahashi, who assumed office less than a week ago, and is hoping to turn a page on U.S.-Japan relations.
