Jacob Elordi, a 27-year-old Australian actor, stars in the new TV series adaptation of "The Narrow Road to the Deep North." This series is based on Richard Flanagan's Booker Prize-winning novel that tells the story of a group of Australian POWs on the Thai-Burma Railway. This marks Elordi's first hometown premiere, an event attended by his whole family. To portray the harrowing conditions accurately, Elordi underwent significant weight loss, despite the challenges of maintaining this during everyday life.

The TV series also incorporates a love story, with Elordi's character, Dorigo, finding solace in memories of a past affair amidst the horrors of war. The production required the cast, including young talents like Thomas Wetherill, Olivia de Jong, and Odessa Young, as well as seasoned actors such as Essie Davis, Heather Mitchell, and Simon Baker, to live together during the shoot, enhancing their portrayal of camaraderie.

Elordi continues to gain recognition with recent work including playing Heathcliff in "Wuthering Heights" alongside Margot Robbie. Speaking about a young co-actor, Elordi acknowledged feeling intimidated by Owen Cooper's confidence and acting prowess on set. We need to preserve the men. It's also a love story and Jacob's character Dorigo sustains himself through the horror with memories of a love affair. We shot the sort of summer of love and then we had a six-week break to sort of lose the weight so when I came into the camps I had the sort of actual memories from shooting with this. The weight loss was needed to accurately portray the harrowing conditions on the railway. The hardest part was doing it on your own when you're sort of in your day-to-day life going why am I not eating that Tim Tam that I want and having steamed broccolini out with my friends. But once we, all the boys lived together during that shoot and we were able to really take each other in. The cast features a mix of young stars like Thomas Wetherill, Olivia de Jong and Odessa Young as well as award winners like Essie Davis, Heather Mitchell and Simon Baker. It kind of harkens back to the great Australian miniseries. And Jacob's star continues to rise. He's just finished starring as Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights with Margot Robbie. Owen Cooper, a little boy from adolescence is playing young Heathcliff, so young you. Yeah. What's he like? He's brilliant and he's intimidating. He's intimidating? Yeah, I think the first day I met him I said are you nervous man? He went no and I was like cool, cool, me neither. I know he's a tremendous actor. Angela Bishop for 10 News First.
