The incident occurred amid a surge in settler attacks, with video evidence confirming similar assaults on Palestinian property earlier in the week. Israeli authorities responded by dispatching forces and arresting suspects, while international officials expressed concern about the potential impact on regional peace efforts.

After midnight, when the worshipers came in the morning to perform the dawn prayer, were surprised by a smell coming out from inside the mosque and that the door was open. They were surprised by the fire inside the mosque and alerted the residents. And the immediate call to the civil defense prevented the mosque from burning down completely. The Israeli military said they had dispatched forces to the scene to review the incident. In a statement, the army said it condemns violence and will continue to safeguard security in the area. The attack near Salfit comes amid a new surge in settler attacks in the territory. On Tuesday, video obtained by Reuters showed dozens of masked Israeli settlers with sticks attacking vehicles and trucks belonging to a dairy producer. Reuters was able to confirm the location from the buildings, road layout, gate and barriers that matched satellite imagery of the area and by Reuters' Aftermath coverage showing the same scene. The date was verified by the timestamp on the video. Israel's army said soldiers rushed to Beit Lid and Deir Sharaf after dozens of masked Israeli civilians attacked Palestinians and set fire to property. The Palestinian Red Crescent said it treated three people who'd been beaten with sticks and stones. Israeli police said four Israeli suspects were arrested and held for questioning. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington was concerned the rise in violence could hamper peace efforts in Gaza. Certainly, there's some concern about events in the West Bank spilling over and creating an effect that could undermine what we're doing in Gaza. We don't expect it to. We'll do everything we can to make sure it doesn't happen. Vandals scrawled Hebrew graffiti on the walls of the mosque near Salfit. The messages include a Bible verse stating God would take vengeance on enemies. Another calls the prophet Mohammed a pig. Last week, the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said settlers staged at least 264 attacks on Palestinians in October, the highest monthly tally since the U.N. began tracking incidents in 2006.
