Israeli military strikes in Gaza have put significant pressure on a ceasefire agreement that has been in place for about 18 days. The attacks targeted areas including Gaza's Sabra neighbourhood and a car in Khan Younis, reportedly in response to Hamas not returning all hostage remains and an attack on Israeli troops near Rafa. 

Both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of violating the truce, which was brokered by Donald Trump. While Israel has halted aid and demanded Hamas disarm, Hamas maintains its commitment to the ceasefire. The U.S. vice president has stated that the ceasefire is holding despite ongoing skirmishes.

And so, Chris, can you take us through the latest tonight? Well, these strikes, these Israeli strikes, Adrienne, are probably the biggest test yet for this ceasefire, which is about 18 days old, among the targets where Gaza's Sabra neighbourhood is also a car in Hanounis. There appear to be a couple of triggers for Israel's military action, impatience that Hamas has not yet returned the bodies of all of the hostages, that Hamas has returned in some cases the wrong remains, and that the group might even have staged the discovery of a body as well. Also, Israel says its troops were attacked near Rafa on Tuesday on its side of the so-called Yellow Line. Hamas says it was not involved, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nonetheless said powerful attacks on Hamas targets would follow. Both sides have accused the other repeatedly of breaking this truce that was brokered by Donald Trump. Israel has attacked Gaza a couple of times already. It's halted aid into the territory, while Hamas has refused to disarm, as Israel and the U.S. say the ceasefire deal compels them to. So where does this leave that ceasefire deal? Well, in Washington, D.C., the U.S. vice president, J.D. Vance, said he believes the ceasefire is holding and what he called skirmishes are to be expected. Now, back in March, a ceasefire was also broken after Israel launched major airstrikes on Gaza and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced more attacks would come. Now, notably, Adrienne, there's been no similar statement from Israel this time. But in its statement, Hamas said it's committed to this ceasefire deal. All right. Well, the whole world is watching.
