Art Basel Miami Beach 2025 welcomed 80,000 collectors and featured more than 380 galleries, reflecting renewed confidence and vibrancy in the art market despite lingering economic uncertainties. The event served as a major hub for collectors from around the world, with a significant focus on the United States, which accounts for 43% of global art transactions by value.

The fair also highlighted the increasing impact of technology on art, with discussions on AI, robotics, and the influence of tech billionaires on global perspectives. Attendees emphasized the importance of in-person experiences, as Art Basel provided opportunities for direct engagement among collectors, dealers, and curators.

80,000 wealthy collectors, over 380 galleries, and Elon Musk as a robot dog. I'm Robert Frank from CNBC, and we're going to take you inside Art Basel Miami Beach 2025. I think coming into Miami now, there's a renewed confidence in the market. We're not out of the woods yet entirely, but there's buying, there's activity, there's energy, and there's vibrancy. For UBS, especially for our clients who are from the United States or from the Americas, it's a huge funnel of activity for our clients. So we have collectors from all across the United States, but other parts of the world as well, that come here to look for works that are important to their collection. In the past, sort of like historically, our sort of view of the world has been altered by artists. The way Picasso painted, the way Warhol made art, changed how we saw the world. Now increasingly, for better or worse, our view of the world is largely shaped by these sort of like tech billionaires who own algorithms that can change what we see and how we sort of like see it. And so we're seeing the world somewhat in a way through the lens of their eye. There's a lot of wealth in the world right now. We've been in a high interest rate environment. There's geopolitical complexity, there's tariff complexity, but I think at some level, people are done with it and they want to come out, be with each other, and rally around art. Art brings people together and buying art makes people happy. With AI and robotics, increasingly we'll look at sculptures as these sort of like living beings and things that interact and sort of like surprise us and do many different things. And so I think that's at the core what this is trying to sort of see the future and kind of like react to sort of like what I see coming. The global art market report shows that 43% of transactions happen in the United States by value. So this really, this points to the idea that people want to go to see things in person. It's easier when those works are all together in one place. And so people are not only, they're looking at the artworks where they're having conversations with dealers, with other collectors, with curators that they see. And so when you're able to have that conversation live with someone in that environment, I mean there's really nothing like it. You're sort of at the red hot center of the art world right now. We'll end this week on a high heading into next year and I think that will set a completely different narrative for 26.
