The attack resulted in the death of 26 tourists and triggered strong responses from both nations. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking in Bihar, has pledged tough measures against Pakistan, stating that terrorism will not go unpunished. In response to the attack, India has implemented several actions, including closing a border crossing with Pakistan, revoking visas issued to Pakistani nationals, and suspending a water supply treaty. This treaty has been in place for decades, and its suspension has prompted Islamabad to consider such actions as acts of war.

Pakistan, on its part, has denied any association with the attack and the armed group claiming responsibility, the Resistance Front. In reaction to India's sanctions, Pakistan has taken steps such as suspending trade, closing its airspace, and expelling Indian defense advisers. Pakistani authorities have indicated that any threat to their sovereignty will be met with strong reciprocal measures.

It follows an attack by gunmen in the town of Pahelgam in Indian-administered Kashmir on Tuesday. We will pursue them to the ends of the earth. India's spirit will never be broken by terrorism. Terrorism will not go unpunished. India has closed a border crossing with its neighbour, suspended a decades-old treaty covering water supplies, and is now revoking all visas issued to Pakistani nationals. Islamabad says any attempt to stop or divert water will be considered an act of war. Pakistan has denied any involvement in Tuesday's attack, and says it has no ties to the armed group the Resistance Front that has claimed responsibility. The rhetoric coming from Islamabad has been no different following a raft of sanctions imposed by India. Pakistan is suspending trade, closing its airspace, and expelling Indian defence, navy and air force advisers. And it's also stated a threat to its sovereignty will be met with firm reciprocal measures. The fiery exchange on the diplomatic front has spread to the streets of both countries, with major cities like Lahore and New Delhi seeing major protests, with some demonstrators demanding military action. We need to initiate a surgical strike on Pakistan. We need to impose the president's rule over Kashmir, and we need to take control. As the victims of the attack are being laid to rest, families and loved ones want justice. The two nuclear-armed states have previously fought wars over Kashmir.
