The European Union's Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas stressed on Wednesday that the bloc's critical infrastructure needs more protection and that there is more work to do to speed up Europe's military growth in light of recent incursions into the territory.

NATO has announced the deployment of US-made anti-drone systems with Polish and Romanian troops, with plans to expand these defences across its eastern flank. This move follows recent breaches of Romanian and Moldovan airspace by drones and an attack on a Polish railway line between Warsaw and Ukraine, which authorities have linked to Russian state terrorism.

Poland has responded by detaining several suspects and closing its last Russian consulate, while Russia denies involvement and plans to limit Poland's diplomatic presence in Moscow. The incidents have prompted NATO and EU officials to emphasize alliance unity and the need for strengthened air defence capabilities.

Incursions in airspace of NATO allies continue

NATO is all systems go, scaling up its air defences. These cost-effective US-made anti-drone crafts will be deployed by Polish and Romanian troops, and could soon be expanded for use across the military alliance's eastern flank. NATO's an alliance of 32 and whether you're on the eastern flank or slightly further to the west of it, we're all in and we're all in to bring this capability development forward on the eastern border. As if on cue, NATO's territory was violated once again on Wednesday. Romania scrambled two F-16 fighter jets when a drone breached its borders, intermittently for 12 minutes, in the country's south-east. Neighbouring Moldova then confirmed that after an exchange of information with partners in Ukraine and Romania, that a drone also flew over its national airspace. The incident follows this weekend's attack on a Polish railway line between Warsaw and Ukraine, which according to the EU's foreign policy chief, demonstrates that Russia's attacks are becoming increasingly brazen. What Russia is trying to do is to do two things. On one hand to test us, how far they can go with every little time they go further, and then next they also try to sow fear within our society. Poland has detained several people in relation to the railway explosion that authorities are calling a sabotage and an act of state terrorism from Russia. As part of its response, the country's foreign minister announced it would be closing its last Russian consulate in the territory. Moscow denies involvement in the attack and has accused Poland of succumbing to Russophobia. In turn, it will be limiting Poland's diplomatic and consular presence in Russia.
