There's a revolt of some kind going on, and when you have that kind of revolt and the demographic shift at the same time, you come up with something new. And that's something new may very well be Zoran Mamdani. Whether Mamdani's success can be replicated beyond New York is a hotly debated issue for his own party, struggling to find a united battle cry against President Donald Trump. Progressives like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez were quick to endorse him. But other Democrats have held back. At the same time, Trump has made Mamdani a target, threatening to withhold billions of federal funding for the city. He's the former. Communist, not socialist. Communist. I'm not a fan of Cuomo one way or the other, but if it's going to be between a bad Democrat and a communist, I'm going to pick the bad Democrat all the time, to be honest with you. Mamdani says there's a reason why his policies are resonating. One in four New Yorkers are living in poverty. That's what we have normalized here in this city. It's unacceptable.
