Calgary Transit is in the process of replacing worn all-season tires on its buses with all-weather tires to improve grip during winter conditions. The new tires are expected to be installed on the entire fleet by 2029, with the upgrade coming at no additional cost to Calgarians.

With snow expected in the coming weeks, city officials say crews are ready for a winter clearing roads, routes and paths for those driving, walking, wheeling and cycling. They add it's a good time for Calgarians to winterize their vehicles and prepare for winter driving. So we really do ask that people are, you know, planning a little more time for their trips, leaving a little more distance between cars and just being patient out on the road. They're also asking drivers to slow down and give road crews plenty of space for safety. Officials add they have about 25 million dollars remaining in their winter maintenance budget through December. This winter, Calgary Transit says it's gradually replacing worn out and damaged all-season tires on its 40 and 60 foot buses with all-weather tires for year-round use. Transit officials expect it will improve grip. We expect that these tires will help keep buses and customers moving during most winter driving conditions. Officials say the tires should be installed on the entire bus fleet by 2029 and come with no additional cost to Calgarians. Dave Gilson, CBC News, Calgary.
