The White House asserts that all conflict of interest laws are being followed, and there has been no intervention from Congress or the courts.

How has Bitcoin performed since Trump took office?

At the annual Bitcoin conference in Las Vegas, cryptocurrency enthusiasts are overjoyed by President Donald Trump's fervent embrace of alternative digital currencies. I'm absolutely thrilled. I mean, it has done wonders. And why not? As the conference opened, the value of Bitcoin surged to an all-time record. President Trump is giving a good push to the industry. I think it's a great thing. In his first term, Trump said crypto was a scam. But changed his mind during the 2024 presidential campaign, as Bitcoin billionaires showered his campaign with cash. That's when his company started its own crypto ventures. I'm a big crypto fan, I will tell you. I've been that from the beginning, right from the campaign. I'm a believer in crypto, and if we're not going to do it, China's going to do it. Once in office, Trump signed executive orders creating a study group to deregulate cryptocurrency and another order aimed at establishing a strategic cryptocurrency reserve. The president and first lady Melania Trump both launched meme coins, a kind of digital currency trading card, the sale and processing of which directly financially benefit the Trump family business. The reason Trump changed his mind about crypto was he saw the huge opportunity for grift, which is one of the things he's excelled at over his life. Last week, as protesters chanted outside, Trump hosted a dinner party for the biggest investors in his meme coin. Chinese crypto billionaire Justin Sun bought the most, $18 million worth. Sun was facing a federal securities fraud lawsuit under the Biden administration. But shortly after Trump entered the White House, the lawsuit was put on hold. It's clear that Trump is willing to wheel and deal if you're going to give his crypto businesses money to get favorable treatment. Just before Trump's recent tour of wealthy Middle Eastern countries, Trump's family cryptocurrency firm announced a $2 billion deal with a fund backed by Abu Dhabi using the Trump company's digital coins. The problems it creates are much greater than just the regulations, but the potential for foreign bribery. The White House says Trump is abiding by all applicable conflict of interest laws. Despite critics who say Trump's crypto activities carry the appearance of corruption, so far the president shows no sign of pulling back.
