Houthi leaders are vowing to continue defying a Red Sea naval coalition led by the U.S. On Sunday, the Singapore-flagged Mayars Kangzoo issued a distress call. The U.S. says the container ship came under fire from four Houthi boats. American warships sunk three of them, killing ten of their fighters. Singapore made a mistake by announcing this alliance, which means militarizing the Red Sea. It did not seek to protect commercial ships or international navigation, as it says, but to add fuel to the fire. Twelve percent of global trade passes through the Red Sea. And while the U.S. says 20 countries have agreed to support its coalition, only the U.K. has contributed warships. Yemen's Houthis are so far undeterred, insisting that only an end to Israeli bombardment in Gaza will bring an end to their campaign in the Red Sea. The real solution is to stop the aggression against Gaza, to allow medicine, water and food in. America says what it is doing is a service to humanity, but the real service to humanity is to bring medicine, water, food and fuel into Gaza. But Israel has signaled its intention to continue its assault on Gaza for months to come, heightening the risk of further conflict not only in the Red Sea, but across the entire region.
