Javier Millet's austerity programme managed to reduce the fiscal deficit which was a big problem for Argentina but at the same time it's having a huge impact on this country's manufacturing sectors. Companies are shutting down, thousands of people have been laid off. Millet says that he will deepen his economic reforms after Sunday's legislative election, something that worries many people in this country. As subsidies vanish, imports surge and credit dries up, companies across the country are struggling. Marcelo Linza Fernandez says the government's economic plan has already failed. New free trade rules means it's not easy to compete with imports. On top of that, we see an end to subsidies, higher prices of water, electricity, gas alongside a drop in consumption. Legislative elections take place Sunday and the results will have an impact on Javier Millet's remaining two years in office. In the closing campaign on Thursday, Millet urged thousands of people to back his administration to sustain his government's agenda. We don't give up. We're halfway there. We're on the right track and this time it will make sense because we say freedom advances or Argentina goes backwards. But the vote is taking place as the Argentine peso continues to depreciate and despite a rescue package from the United States. Analysts say Millet's economic programme will have to change after Sunday's vote. If the government doesn't put the currency to float and finally accepts that it has to build up the reserves, all this will be a waste of American taxpayers' money. Donald Trump has conditioned US assistance to Argentina on a win for Millet. Many in Argentina will be watching Sunday's vote closely, wondering what its outcome will mean for their lives.
