The Denver metro area could see 1 to 3 inches of snow, and a weather action day has been declared for late Thursday into early Friday due to potentially slick roads. Conditions are forecast to improve by the weekend, with temperatures rebounding and mostly sunny skies.

High fire danger for parts of Colorado's Front Range

We do want to get back to chief meteorologist Lisa Dalgo. Because Lisa, the big story today is the winds and you're saying the the warnings that we're seeing are actually going to affect maybe a little earlier than they would otherwise. Typically, we'd see it mid morning, 10 to about 11 o'clock that the Red Flag warning would go into effect. But now 8 o'clock this morning. It's already windy on the West side of town and it's going to stay gusty throughout the day, so high fire danger, snow possible on Thursday, which is going to be a nice change for us here later in the week, and it gets about 20 to 30 degrees colder by Friday. Right now you can see those winds here from about 50 to near 60 mph. Boulder, Broomfield up near even Fort Collins winds are starting to kick up and they'll be pretty strong up and over the northeastern plains here. As the day goes on right now in town, it's not that windy. You will find in areas the winds pick up at times 30s and 40s. As you step out the door, so we get some really mild conditions again with those downsloping winds coming in out of the West Firestone. Right now at 44 Broomfield, currently 45 Centennial 41. Teens and 20s if you're heading out from the mountains now, the mountains picked up some snow yesterday. We're going to see some light snow spots early this morning. That will continue to clear up more sunshine in store here this afternoon and some drier conditions statewide. Highs are going to be in the upper 50s to near 60 here in Denver now overnight into early tomorrow morning. 20s and 30s. It's going to be a cold start early Wednesday morning, a touch cooler tomorrow. Highs are going to be in the mid to upper 50s by Wednesday afternoon. Those when we're going to be really tracking this next storm, which overnight Wednesday into early Thursday will start to bring some snow down in and across parts of southwestern Colorado and into the San Luis Valley. Denver is going to stay dry through. It looks like most of Thursday. We may see a few spotty rain and snow showers across the eastern Plains. It's more so going to be Thursday night into early Friday that we'll see our best chance for some of that snow developing right here along the front range right now. It still looks like around 1 to 3 inches for the core of the metro area. Here in just a few minutes, I'm going to show you what we're expecting snowfall wise. Heavier snow for the mountains, but expect 60s today down into the 40s on Thursday and then looks like low to mid 30s on Friday. We will be under a Denver 7 weather action day late Thursday into early Friday for potentially some slick roads. I'd say it's going to be that Friday morning commute, which would likely be one of the sketchiest here along the front range with that snow. As we head into the weekend, things quickly clear out. In fact, by Friday afternoon, we're going to be already under the mostly sunny sky. Within Saturday and Sunday, back in the mid to upper 40s, closer to even 50 degrees Jason by Sunday, so it is a pretty fast moving system. The mountains will pick up quite a bit more snow, so details coming up.
