Hezbollah has said it launched dozens of rockets at Kiryat Shmona, an Israeli border town, in response to Israeli strikes on Lebanon’s southern village of al-Habbariyeh that killed seven people. The Israeli military and the Iran-aligned Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas, have been exchanging near-daily fire across the border since October when the current conflict in Gaza started.

Seven young men, university students, volunteers, were in the emergency health center that was completely destroyed. It wasn't the first time Israel hit a medical facility in villages close to the border during the conflict. It began when Hezbollah opened a front line against Israeli forces in support of Gaza. Previous attacks have also killed medical workers. These young men were our friends. We grew up with them. This is a civilian target, not a military one. But we aren't shocked. This is what the enemy does. The center was run by Jamal Islamiyeh, a group that has participated in attacks on Israel. People here deny Israeli army claims that jets targeted a military compound belonging to the group and eliminated what it called a significant operative. This center used to serve the whole region. These volunteers helped those who were sick and wounded in Israeli attacks. The nearest hospital is kilometers away. People here tell us they believe this strike is part of Israel's strategy to depopulate the region close to the border. Already an area of up to four kilometers is largely empty of civilians. Tens of thousands have been forced from their homes. Some of them moved to Habariyeh, which was hit for the first time on Tuesday night. People here are trying to make sense of their loss in a conflict that's still largely confined to military targets and tied to the outcome of the war on Gaza.
