Good morning, everybody. We start once again with the war in Gaza, and word of a potential breakthrough in the ongoing effort to free the more than 200 hostages still being held by Hamas. According to the New York Times, a deal has been brokered by the U.S., Egypt and Qatar with Hamas to free 50 women and children being held hostage in exchange for roughly the same number of Palestinian women and children serving time in Israeli prisons. Hamas is also asking for a three- to five-day pause in the fighting in Gaza and for more humanitarian aid. All that remains is for the Israeli government to approve that agreement. It's a situation, of course, we'll be following for you closely all morning long.

Israeli planes and tanks pounded areas in eastern Gaza on Thursday (October 30), Palestinian residents and witnesses said, a day after Israel said it remained committed to a U.S.-backed ceasefire despite launching more lethal bombardments in the territory.
